About the Department

The Department of Economics at Durgapur Women’s College was constituted more that 40 years back ( or in the year 1980) with a few faculty members and offering only a General degree to students.
It has subsequently grown in faculty strength and academics, presently catering to a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) Programme (General & Honours) since the year 2017 under the Kazi Nazrul University.
The department caters to more than170 students every year. Presently we have 3 full time faculty members(1 Asso. prof, 1 Asst. prof, and 1 SACT). Frequently classes are taken by invited lecturer. This helps the department cater to students in majoring in Economics along with students from other streams pursuing a minor degree in Economics. Also under KNU’s new interdisciplinary curriculum, students have been given another option to opt for Economics as part of their college syllabus.

With a diverse student population, specially from semi urban and rural areas around and outside the city, the Department of Economics enriches learning through close student teacher relationships, accessibility and regular assignments, tests, quizzes, projects, study trips, competitions, seminars, workshops, personality development programmes etcetera, encouraging students in realising their true potential through a much revered subject.

Our students fare well in academic as well as extracurricular activities. Regular and strict schedule of classes and tutorials as well as remedial classes for slow learners ensure their academic development. The department also has a good percentage of progression to postgraduate level. Several number of students of this department have taken admission to MBA courses and some students have already got employment in different sectors.

  7. While leaving the school, the teachers had said that there is nothing like school in college and it was right too , but when I took admission in this college I came to know that colleges also have teachers who are just as lovely as those in schools..
I know my department very closely and I can say that I could not have had more loving teachers than them in my graduation life..The way they taught me to consider the department and the college as my own, it helped me a lot in creating fond memories of college life..Our respected DG Ma’am, HOD of our department, she looks a bit strict but she loves the students the most.. I am the one who gets scolded the most in my group and perhaps that is why I have got the most love too by her ..
Along with bookish knowledge, she also explained to me the things which will be useful in life just like a mother teaches her child the values, ethics and principles of living life..Our respected Krishanu sir , he is a very fun – loving person .. He always shares with us new experiences of his work which was very interesting and we got to learn a lot from it.. He told us many scopes of job field which will be useful to us in future..And Our beloved Moumita mam and RM mam , Professionally we are their students but they always treat us like their friends or younger sister .. If I had not met both of you, I might not have known that a teacher-student relationship can also turn into a friendship where you can share all your problems like we do with our friends .. along with studies they told us about their college days which helped us a lot in our college life..I have learned a lot from all of you and will always remember the teachings you all gave me..
These memories, these bondings will always be priceless for me..
wherever I stay, this department of DWC will always be my favourite part of my college life..
The way we all study together, attend classes and gossips together in our free time will always be memorable for me..
And for all this I will always be grateful to my teachers..
