About the Department

The Department of Bengali of Durgapur Women’s College has a very long and rich heritage with commendable contribution in cultural and educational scenario in Durgapur. This Department started its journey independently in 1980. Bengali was taught as a General Course at that time. After that UG Honours course was introduced in the year 2000. From the session 2016-17 all the course (CBCS) has been undertaken directly by the Kazi Nazrul University.

Presently the Department has 6 full time teachers, including 01 Associate Professor, 02 Assistant Professors and 03 SACT. The vision of the department endeavours to generate new knowledge and produce students who are trained in literary studies specifically in Bengali language along with interdisciplinary connections with three other language and literature disciplines of this Institution. The Department of Bengali strives to pursue academic excellence in Teaching-Learning process, Research and Extension. The Department ensures a friendly cohesion between teachers and students. Students always feel free to communicate with the teachers in the department regarding various aspects of their studies. Every year, our students of this department actively participate in the college annual exhibition and have also won prizes in interdepartmental competitions, exhibitions and sports. Students of this department have been placed for higher education in reputed universities of West Bengal.
