About the Department

Department of Political Science was established in 1980 with the offer of B.A. (Pass) in Political Science affiliated to Burdwan University, subsequently Honours course for political Science was successfully started from 1995 affiliated to Burdwan University. The goal of the department is to include critical thinking in the young minds of the students which can help them in future to question any authority. Students in the department are motivated to pursue higher studies to enhance their knowledge and compete in various national and state level administrative services examination. The faculties of the department have a vision of producing young graduates who can meet the challenges of life in political, social, economic and cultural realm. The department is committed to take a leading role in the college to produce a democratic minded people. The dedication, love, and sincerity of the professors of this department and the rich culture of the college will help and motivate the students for a better life.

Infrastructure:

The Department also has a good Seminar Library and Book Bank to help the Students all through the year. The Seminar Library has around 112 books.

Other Activities:

  • Electoral Literacy Club Formation on 5th September 2018, Teacher in Charge Manimala Ghosh, Students Enrolled Priyanka Singh, Romi Datta, Sutapa Mandal , Chinnari, Anjali Subudhi.
  • Debate Competition held on 18th September 2018 on “Should Voting Right Get the Recognition of Fundamental Right or not” , Students participated are Dipti Gupta , Riya Baruya, nitu Sing, Best Speaker award Received by Shaika Khatun in Debate Competition.
  • Tree plantation Project Program conducted on 4th February 2019 in Front of our Department.
  • Inter College on various Events took place in Gushkara College on 18th November 2016.
  • Excursion for educational tour held at Churulia on 10th march 2017.
  • Departmental Wall Magazine celebrating International women’s day on 8th March 2017, topic Human Rights.
  • Departmental Wall Magazine celebrating Teachers Day on 5th September 2017, topic Women’s Cricket & Sports Achievements.
  • Departmental Exhibition on 18th November 2019, topic Raja Rammohan Roy: A Social Reformer.
  • Excursion To Nehru Park Located on the Banks of Damodar River, Burnpur on 14th December 2019.
  • Excursion to Science City, Burdwan and a short Visit to 108 Shiv Mandir, Burdwan on 12th November 2022.
  • Parent Teachers Meeting & Mentoring was held on 2nd September 2022,December 2023
  • Pre Independence Program “HAR GHAR TIRANGA”, Adopted Slum (Paramanda Borofcal Slum) Area on 13th August 2022.
  • An Awareness program on Consumer Rights held on 30 th November2023 in collaboration with Consumer Forum , Durgapur,WB

Prizes and Awards:

  1. Won 2nd Prize in District Level Youth Parliament Competition at T.D.B College Raniganj on 24th & 25th September 2019.
  2. Won 3rd Prize at the Divisional Level Youth Parliament Competition at Burnpur on 13th & 14th December.
  3. Respective Students won 2nd prize (Romi,Priyanka,Rabeya &Roza) for quiz competition at sub-divisional &district levelon20.1.2020 & 22.1.2020 respectively at Durgapur sub divisional office & Asansol SDM office.
  4. Won 1st Prize at the District Level Youth Parliament Competition on 7th November 2022 at Chittaranjan Mahavidyalaya. Individual Prizes follows as Best Speaker Srishti Chakraborty, Best Opposition Leader Ananya Chakraborty, and Best Lady Parliamentarian Trishna Paul.
  5. Won 1st Prize at the Divisional Level Youth Parliament Competition on 11th &12th November 2022 at Auditorium Hall Distance Education Dept. Burdwan University. Individual Prizes follows as Best Opposition Leader Ananya Chakraborty, Best Parliamentarian Ishika Banerjee & Best Lady Parliamentarian Sunami Mondal.
  6. Best Speaker award Received by Shaika Khatun in Debate Competition on 18th September 2018 in Durgapur Women’s College.
